The Farm

L'Olivier Wine & Olive Estate is situated in a secluded valley called the Langkloof, branching out of the well-known Stellenbosch Kloof in the Bottelary Hills. The free-draining vineyard slopes are mostly facing South-East and South-West, directly into the cool breezes of False bay (Indian Ocean), only a mere 17 km away to the South.

Table Bay (Atlantic Ocean) lies 28 km's to the west and along with the altitude of our farm, ranging from 190m to 400m above sea level, L'Olivier is superbly located to produce premium quality grapes, especially Sauvignon blanc.

In total 21 ha are under vines and 8 ha under olive trees which was planted in 1947. The grape varieties that we specialise in are Sauvignon blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and the olives are cultivated to produce highly sought after Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The soils on the property derives from the Granite Hilltops of the Bottelary Hills and consist of different stages of decomposed granite. The majority of the soils are Oakleaf which has a high clay content and therefor very well suited to grow dry land vineyards which results in grapes with superb concentration.
